This week, NFHA\u2019s \u201cFrontdoor\u201d application was among the winners in the Health and COVID-19 category and was awarded a $20,000 prize. Michael Akinwumi, PhD, NFHA\u2019s Chief Tech Equity Officer, released the following statement:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"content-wrap-item post__paragraph\">\u201cNFHA\u2019s Tech Equity Initiative (TEI) is a multi-pronged effort designed to eliminate bias and discrimination in algorithmic systems including statistical models, machine learning systems, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems. From applying for a job to renting an apartment, technology that was built to make life easier often increases inequity and limits access to economic opportunities, sometimes unintentionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"content-wrap-item post__paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re pleased that our \u2018Frontdoor\u2019 application was recognized by the Open Data for Good Grand Challenge for the work it can do to connect users to emergency rental assistance in under 10 minutes. The COVID-19 pandemic financially burdened millions of families in our nation, and it can be difficult to navigate the resources available to those in need. Using publicly available data, \u2018Frontdoor\u2019 seeks to streamline this process and ensure no family misses out on aid they are qualified to receive.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"content-wrap-item post__paragraph\">\u201cNFHA thanks the Open Data for Good Grand Challenge for recognizing the importance of the \u2018Frontdoor\u2019 application.
